Girls Have a Superpower in STEM Innovation

Close the STEM Gender Gap: Girls Have a Superpower!

Girls have a superpower that can launch STEM careers….Empathy.

Empathy is critical to Design Thinking and human centered design. Empathy is the ability to see the world through other people’s eyes, to see what they see, feel what they feel, and experience things as they do. Design Thinking drives Innovation.

Steve Jobs famously said, “Most people make the mistake of thinking design is what it looks like. People think it’s this veneer – that the designers are handed this box and told, ‘Make it look good!’ That’s not what we think design is. It’s not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.”

Why Design Thinking? According to Creativity at Work, Design thinking succeeds when it finds ideal solutions based on the real needs of real people. It fuels the creation of products and services that deeply resonate with customers. Success!

In our experience running STEM, Innovation and Entrepreneurship workshops, girls might not initially identify themselves as technical or coders. However we noticed girls have a superpower to identify with the needs of an individual or group, design a potential solution and apply technology to bring their solution to life. That’s a big deal!

GirlsTech is all about empowering girls to confidently imagine, create, lead and achieve. Be the best future innovators they can be!

Why GirlsTech? Women make up half of the national workforce, but hold just 25% of the jobs in technical or computing fields according to national research. STEM jobs are the fastest growing segment of future jobs.

Let’s get girls involved!
